Max level Alts - Gear up and benefits in 9.1.5

This guide will go through all the different ways added in 9.1.5 when it comes to gearing up your alts.

When you hit max level 60 in patch 9.1.5, you will be able to boost up the gear on your alt character in different ways based on what content you have played on your main character.

  • If you have done outdoor world, such as Korthia, then you can gear up your alt with Korthian gear.
  • If you have done mythic plus dungeons, then you can gear up your alt with M+ gear.
  • If you have done PvP battlegrounds or arena, then you can gear up your alt with PvP gear.
  • If you have done Torghast, then you can send Soul Ash to your alts (patch 9.0). But also in 9.1.5, if you have legendary gear that you don´t need, then you can disenchant it and get the materials for it.

We are going to take a look at how those 4 systems work, how you can get the gear to your alt and the cost.

There are also other types of character power in Shadowlands that has nothing to do with the actual gear.

  • Skip story content and get renown and more.
  • Boost up Renown on your alt.
  • Get all 3 Soulbinds directly on alt.

Then we have non-character-power that is also good for alts.

  • Send anima to your alt.
  • Unlock flight paths and explore areas automatically on alt.
  • Boost up adventure companions to level 30.

Other things added that are good for main and alt characters

  • Significantly increased the amount of Soul Cinders awarded from Layers 8 – 12, Maw Assaults, Tormentors of Torghast, and Command Table missions.

We will take a look at how all these new things will work out one by one.

Boost up the gear on your alt

As mentioned, we have 4 different ways

  • Korthian Gear
  • M+ Gear
  • PvP Gear
  • Legendary gear

Korthian Gear

In 9.1.5 we are getting Bind on Account Korthian gear that are gear slot specific. Meaning, you can buy this gear and send it to your alts. Before 9.1.5 it was an item that was RNG on what type of gear slot you got the Korthian gear on.

The ilvl starts at 200 ilvl and this can be upgraded all the way up to 233 ilvl with the currency Cataloged Research.

Check out the guide “Korthian gear” for more info.

M+ Gear

There is a new item added in 9.1.5 called Valorous Equipment Chest. This item is bind on Blizzard account, meaning you can send this to your alt characters.

This item is sold by the vendor NPC called Au´Dara (Heirloom Broker) and is located on the top floor in Oribos, just next to the flight master.

The item costs 500 Valor and contains 1 piece of item level 210 Mythic 0 gear.

There is also a requirement, the chest can only be purchased with Valor by a character with a 1500 or higher Mythic+ Rating.

PvP Gear

There is a new item added in 9.1.5 called Unchained Equipment Chest. This item is bind on Blizzard account, meaning you can send this to your alt characters.

This item is sold by the vendor NPC called Au´Dara (Heirloom Broker) and is located on the top floor in Oribos, just next to the flight master.

The item costs 375 Conquest points and contains 1 piece of item level 220 unranked PvP gear.

There is also a requirement, the chest can only be purchased with Conquest by a character with a 1600 or higher rating in any PvP bracket.

Legendary Gear

There are some good changes made in 9.1.5 that benefits both your alt character and your main.

The first one is that you can enter and do Torghast as many times as you want in one day and still get Soul Ash / Soul Cinders every time. So basically, you can get enough Soul Ash and Soul Cinders needed for crafting a legendary gear in one day instead of waiting several weeks.

The second thing is that you can disenchant already made legendary gear and get the materials back. You get the same amount of Soul Ash and Soul Cinder that you put on it when you crafted it.

Also, don’t forget that you can send Soul Ash to your alts.

Boost up Character Power on your alt

Boost to Renown 40

When you hit max Renown on your main character, then you will unlock an item called Broker Mark of Distinction. This item is Bind on Account, so you can buy them and send them to your alts. When your alt uses this item, they level up to 40 Renown with their Covenant.

This item is sold by the vendor NPC called Au´Dara (Heirloom Broker) and is located on the top floor in Oribos, just next to the flight master.

This item costs 500 gold.

Skip Story Content

There are several chapters that you can skip on your alt if your main has completed the story. When you skip it, you will also get the renown that was rewarded on those chapters.

Boost up 3 Soubinds directly

If your main has the same covenant as your alt character, then you will instantly unlock 3 soulbinds on your covenant once you hit max level. Just talk to those Soulbind NPC´s in your covenant.

Non-character-power for alts

  • Send anima to your alt.
  • Unlock flight paths and explore areas automatically on alt.
  • Boost up adventure companions to level 30.

Send anima

There is a new item added in 9.1.5 called Traveler's Anima Cache. This item is bind on Blizzard account, meaning you can send this to your alt characters.

This item is sold by the vendor NPC called Au´Dara (Heirloom Broker) and is located on the top floor in Oribos, just next to the flight master.

The item costs 1000 anima and when used you get 1000 anima. So basically, you buy the item with the character that has the anima, then you send the item to your alt and use it. Now your alt character will have that anima instead.

What is anima used for
Anima upgrades generally lead to fun items and quality-of-life improvements. Not character power. There are some things you’ll get with upper-level Anima upgrades (upgraded Adventures can reward Soul Ash, the currency for making legendary items) but they’re not too overpowered.

Unlock exploration and flight paths

Before 9.1.5 we had Scouting Map of classic/vanilla zones, Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. In 9.1. all expansions are getting a Scouting Map. With a Scouting Map you will discover flight points and reveal maps around that zone.

A scouting map costs 10 000 gold.

  • Scouting Map: The Burning Crusade Campaign
  • Scouting Map: True Cost of the Northrend Campaign
  • Scouting Map: Cataclysm´s Consequences
  • Scouting Map: A Stormstout´s Guide to Pandaria
  • Scouting Map: The Dangers of Draenor
  • Scouting Map: United Fronts of the Broken Isles
  • Scouting Map: The Wonders of Kul Tiras and Zandalar
  • Scouting Map: Into the Shadowlands

The Scouting Map for Shadowlands requires the Achievement: Explorer of the Shadowlands. I can´t see if it is required for the other Scouting Maps since I have already explored them. So maybe it is needed for them as well.

Boost companions to lvl 30

There is a new item added in 9.1.5 called Timebound Ruminations. This item is bind on Blizzard account, meaning you can send this to your alt characters.

This item is sold by the vendor NPC called Au´Dara (Heirloom Broker) and is located on the top floor in Oribos, just next to the flight master.

The item costs 10 000 anima and sets an Adventures companion to level 30.

It requires that you have one companion on at least level 40 to be able to buy it and it cannot be used on companions level 30 and above.
