What is Shadowflame Crest (and Flightstones)

You get a Shadowflame Crest when you complete a specific difficulty. You need one Crest when you upgrade one piece of gear (but you also need Flightstones which is the currency of how much it costs to upgrade). So basically the crest is a thing that is needed in order to let you upgrade and the Flightstone is the cost to upgrade. You do not get the Crest back after you upgrade, it will be gone. The 4 types of Crests are:

- Whelpling
- Drake
- Wyrm
- Aspect

Different crests can upgrade different types of Gear and there are 5 different types. 

- Explorer (can be upgraded 8 times)
- Adventurer (can be upgraded 8 times)
- Veteran (can be upgraded 8 times)
- Champion (can be upgraded 8 times)
- Hero (can be upgraded 5 times)

Whelpling Crest can upgrade Adventurer Gear, the last 4 ranks.

Whelpling Crest can upgrade Veteran Gear, the first 4 ranks.
Drake Crest can upgrade Veteran Gear, the last 4 ranks.

Drake Crest can upgrade Champion Gear, the first 4 ranks.
Wyrm Crest can upgrade Champion Gear, the last 4 ranks.

Wyrm Crest can upgrade Hero Gear, the first 4 ranks.
Aspect Crest can upgrade Hero Gear, the last rank.

So basically: 

  • NO Crest to Upgrade Explorer Rank 1-4 (376 - 385 ilvl)
  • NO Crest to Upgrade Explorer Rank 5-8 (389 - 398 ilvl)

  • NO Crest to Upgrade Adventurer Rank 1-4 (389 - 398 ilvl)
  • Shadowflame WHELPLING Crest to upgrade Adventurer Rank 5-8 (402 - 411 ilvl)

  • Shadowflame WHELPLING Crest to Upgrade Veteran Rank 1-4 (402 - 411 ilvl)
  • Shadowflame DRAKE Crest to Upgrade Veteran Rank 5-8 (415 - 424 ilvl)

  • Shadowflame DRAKE Crest to Upgrade Champion Rank 1-4 (415 - 424 ilvl)
  • Shadowflame WYRM Crest to Upgrade Champion Rank 4-8 (428 - 437 ilvl)

  • Shadowflame WYRM Crest to Upgrade Hero Rank 1-4 (428 - 437 ilvl)
  • Shadowflame ASPECT Crest to Upgrade Hero Rank 5 (441 ilvl)

RAID GEAR REWARDS & UPGRADES

Here are the gear ilvl you get from raids and what type of gear you get from the raids. Based on type of gear, you can upgrade them to a certain ilvl. 

The drop is Crest Fragments and you need 15 fragments to make it into a Crest. The Crest Fragments are 100% drop.

Raid Finder 402 ilvl
Very Rare (last 2 bosses) 415 ilvl
You get Veteran Gear
You need Whelpling Crest for the first 4 upgrades.
You need Drake Crest for the last 4 upgrades. 
Raid Finder will drop Whelpling’s Shadowflame Crest Fragments. Most bosses will drop 10 fragments, but end bosses will drop 15

Normal 415 ilvl
Very Rare (last 2 bosses) 428 ilvl
You get Champion Gear
You need Drake Crest for the first 4 upgrades.
You need Wyrm Crest for the last 4 upgrades. 
Normal Aberrus will drop Drake’s Shadowflame Crest Fragments. Most bosses will drop 10 fragments, but end bosses will drop 15.

Heroic 428 ilvl
Very Rare (last 2 bosses) 441 ilvl
You get Heroic Gear
You get 
You need Wyrm Crest for the first 4 upgrades.
You need Aspect Crest for the last upgrade.
Heroic Aberrus will drop Drake’s Shadowflame Crest Fragments. Most bosses will drop 10 fragments, but end bosses will drop 15.

Mythic 441 ilvl
Very Rare (last 2 bosses) 441 ilvl
You get Mythic Gear (No upgrade)
Mythic Aberrus will drop Drake’s Shadowflame Crest Fragments. Most bosses will drop 10 fragments, but end bosses will drop 15.
