PREPARATION
Before you start leveling up, you must do the following.
- Upgrade your Heirlooms to shadowlands gear upgrade and wear all that you can.
The ilvl of heirloom is pretty low at start when level 50 so check what you need and keep wearing the rest. But at higher levels the heirloom gear scales up pretty good.
At level 50 on the PTR now, you get 58 ilvl.
At level 58 on the PTR now, you get 140 ilvl heirloom gear.
If you played during BFA, then u still got the Heart of Azeroth and that is most likely better than the heirloom necklace. The power of the Heart of Azeroth doesn’t work in Shadowlands but the secondary stats are still good on it.
- Buy 4 Broker Mark of Distinction (costs 500g each) that allows you to level up the Renown on your alt all the way to 40. The vendor is called Heirloom Vendor (name will probably change) and located on the top floor in Oribos next to the Flight Master. The location will probably change on live as well. Send the item to your alt.
Skip to Oribos & make clever Covenant moves plus 40 Renown
Once you start leveling, talk to Highlord Darion Morgraine, and choose that you have done this before and skip the entire Maw. You will start in Oribos immediately.
Start choosing your covenant. Once you have chosen, use your Mark of Distinction to reach 40 Renown. You will be rewarded with 1000 anima and a mount.
Go to the next covenant and choose that one instead. Once you have chosen, use your Mark of Distinction to reach 40 Renown. You will be rewarded with 1000 anima and a mount.
Go to the third covenant and choose that one instead. Once you have chosen, use your Mark of Distinction to reach 40 Renown. You will be rewarded with 1000 anima and a mount.
Go to the fourth covenant and choose that one instead. Once you have chosen, use your Mark of Distinction to reach 40 Renown. You will be rewarded with 1000 anima and a mount.
Now you have 4000 anima and some mounts (if you didn’t have them before).
Make sure that your last covenant is the one you will have when leveling.
Best way to level up
The best way to level up is efficiency and maximizing renown during leveling.
Objectives
There are 5 objectives in each of the zones: Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald and Revendreth.
These objectives have been changed in 9.1.5 in the way that it goes much faster to complete them. When I was clocking the time, it took 2.5 minutes in general to complete one objective. with flying mount. Focus on the click objects which reward around 10% each. Bigger mobs 10-15% and smaller mobs 7%.
Completing an objective also rewards 1 Renown.
There are 20 Objectives in total, which means that you will have 20 Renown after completing all of them. With flying to each zone and completing all objectives, it will take around and hour and 20 minutes.
The time it takes to complete 4 objectives, that’s how long time it takes to complete a dungeon and the experience is 1.5 times more when completing objectives compared to dungeons.
Zone completion
Completing all 5 Objectives in a zone reward only 50% of the zone completion.
Do NOT complete the normal quests scattered in the zone, because they reward only 3% per quest and is a big waste of time. Instead:
- Kill rares (3%)
- Loot chests (3%)
- Complete dailies that are fast to do (4%)
- Do the dungeon tied to that zone (%)
Stuff that are great to do per day
Torghast (1 Renown)
In 9.1.5 we have access to Torghast. It feels that it is not set to stone yet when it comes to how much experience you get from there but right now, you get very little xp when killing mobs inside Torghast and you do NOT get any xp when completing a wing in Torghast.
The xp comes from a daily quest that wants you to complete 2 wings and once completed, you get rewarded with 1 Renown and approximately 1.5 xp more than a dungeon. But in this case, a dungeon goes faster to complete most likely, compared to 2 Torghast runs.
We will see how much xp it will turn out to in the end when 9.1.5 comes live. The main thing is to give them feedback about this. For now, 1 Renown is nice for this daily quest.
Also, you get rewarded with some Soul Ash as well. I´ve given them feedback to actually reward Soul Cinder as well since that also what´s needed to craft higher ilvl legendaries, so please do the same.
Battleground PvP (1 Renown)
In 9.1.5 we also get a daily battleground quest that also rewards 1 renown, PvP gear and xp. Do this as well or skip if you are anti-PvP.
Dungeons
If you are a dps, then it will take longer time to enter a dungeon once you have queued up. Therefore, que up to dungeons from time to time as well while doing the above.
If you are a tank or healer, then it will go instant to join dungeons. Therefore, que up to them once you have completed all the above.
Timewalking
If there is a Timewalking event when you are leveling your character, then always que up for that instead of Shadowlands dungeons.
Renown
When it comes to Renown, you will get 64 Renown once you finished the objectives and zone quest completion. Then you will have
Use Broker Mark of Distinction | 40 Renown |
Completing all Objectives | 20 Renown |
Completing all Zones | 4 Renown |
Total Renown: 64
Per Day activity
Torghast daily quest | 1 Renown |
Battleground daily quest | 1 Renown |
Total Renown from daily quests: 2 Renown
